“A great course which gets people in the civil sector approaching situations from a different angle and makes how they handle it more flexible and easier to understand.”

Combat Ready Hike is a hiking version of the “Leadership Principles from War” training. We combine moderate activity in nature with acquiring new knowledge, also building team unity. The hike does not require any physical preparedness. Rather, the focus will be on being in nature, engaging in stimulating discussions, acquiring new knowledge and developing relationships.
This is a training day where theory is closely linked to immediate practice. New knowledge will be reinforced through discussions, role-plays and exercises. Debrief and detailed feedback after every exercise help participants connect these freshly learned principles to challenges they face daily at work and personal life. On the Combat Ready Hike you will have a unique opportunity to see the problems through the lens of a leader, subordinate and colleague. This setup contributes to better understanding of each other, the problems and possible solutions.
The training takes place in the wild with the aim of stepping out of your usual environment. Nature, fresh air and movement are the perfect combination for acquiring new knowledge, thinking creatively and making memories together as a team.
Combat Ready Hike will happen whatever the season or the weather. There is no bad weather, only bad gear. Hikes take place all over Estonia, we choose the location according to the participants’ wishes.
We start the day at the agreed location early in the morning.
We’ll get acquainted, review the essential equipment, make the necessary arrangements for a successful day and introduce the upcoming Combat Ready Hike.
A hike in a scenic location, suitable for all participants, awaits. Combat Ready Hike is designed to build team unity and develop leadership skills. There are a number of exercises to be done as a team and the ‘Leadership Principles from War’ learned during the day need to be applied.
The mission will be tailored to the needs and wishes of the team/group. The longer the hike, the more insights and discussions.
The maximum duration is 6-8 hours.
- Why learn from combat?
- 4 Laws of Combat
- The mindset of special forces personnel and examples:
Extreme Ownership – I am in control of my life only when I take ownership of everything, instead of blaming others and making excuses. Once this mindset is adopted, real changes will begin to take place both within you and in your life.
Taking Initiative – problems are not going to get solved by themselves. Sometimes you just need to get started, even if you don’t have the perfect plan right away. Better a half-baked plan today than the perfect plan tomorrow. All it takes is a daring spirit!
Adapt – the situation and environment are constantly changing. Getting stuck in the same old ways is dangerous and does not help further.
Discipline Equals Freedom – more free time by carrying out your duties in a disciplined way.
Humility – what is EGO, why and how is it beneficial to tame it in a leadership context.
- Team building exercises
- Role plays
Participants will have a thorough experience of using leadership principles and extreme ownership principles and an idea of how to apply them in real life. Lessons learned are practical, immediately usable and suitable for leaders of different levels and experience – from C-level to frontline workers.
Participants will have improved the following skills:
- Making swift decisions based on limited information
- Immediately executing based on those relevant decisions
- Taking ownership of arising problems and corresponding solutions
- Being a team player and collaborating
- Communicating more effectively up the ladder, down the ladder and with colleagues
- Simplifying the plan and therefore raising effectiveness
- Prioritizing everyday tasks and long-term strategies
- Encouraging their peers to solve problems and LEAD
- Keeping their EGO in check to better support the execution of the mission
- Adapting to a quickly changing environment
- Making decisions when lacking information and in chaos
- Taking responsibility and solving problems both at work and in personal life
